Job Description
- Assist pharmacists to maintain inventories of medications and prescription records of pharmaceutical products
- Assess prescriptions for completeness and ensure information is accurate
- Gather and enter client information in databases and prepare medications for clients in collaboration with pharmacists
- Compound pharmaceutical products such as intravenous injections, oral solutions, ointments and creams
- Process payment of prescriptions and other pharmacy services including direct billing to third party insurers
- Provide instructions on how to use health aids, and medical devices such as drug administration devices and monitoring devices
- May help with scheduling and workflow.
- Taking note of all relevant medical details and prescription information
- Filling the prescription for the Pharmacist to verify
- Counting and categorizing pills
- Verifying inventory counts with the Pharmacist
- Providing patient care and customer service
- Billing all medications accordingly
- Preparing ingredients for the production of compound solutions, creams, or ointments
- Ensuring that all patients receive the proper tools to take their medications (e.g. syringes, droppers)
- Maintaining customers' prescription records
- Creating and applying labels for medications
- Handling customers' questions and concerns
- Counting and packaging medications into bottles
- Assisting the pharmacist with other tasks as needed
- Taking inventory of medications available in the pharmacy
- Keeping the pharmacy clean, organized, and well-stocked
- Contacting insurance providers to correct coverage issues
- Running a cash register and ringing up customers' purchases
- Seeking health care providers' authorization for prescription refills
